Ten 13 Books I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren’t My Typical Genre/Type of Book (or that was out of your comfort zone)

Well, I wouldn’t say that I enjoyed all of the books that were out of my comfort zone. So, I am going to break them up into two categories. The Books I liked 4 or 5 Stars, and Books that I didn’t really care for 3 Stars or under.

Books I Liked:
6432838 21473404 13260536 15790982

1-6.) Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I thought I would never lay a finger on these books, but my sister
made me read them, and I am glad she did. I LOVED THEM! Now I hope,
that Bloodlines is just as good! I’m still waiting on three of the books, then
I will be getting my read on! 🙂

7.) Percy Jackson and The Olympians Series by Rick Riordan. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I haven’t read all of the books yet, but I will in time. I really loved  the
first book, and by what I hear, I should love the rest of them just as much!

8.) The Murmurings by Carly Anne West. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I’m not a big fan of Fantasy/Mystery/Thrillers, but this book caught my
attention, and I just had to have it! I think the icing on the cake is the
fact that it is set in Arizona, and I live in Arizona, so I couldn’t say no.
There are some crazy things going on in this book, but I still enjoyed it.

9.) Absent by Katie Williams. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I got this book on my nook app a while ago when it was like $2.
Like I said before, I’m not really into Fantasy or Paranormal books, but
I bought it because it was cheap, and I like/believe in Ghosts, so why not?

Books I Didn’t Like So Much/Could Have Been Better:
18007564 23976054 25215823 22237470

10.) The Martian by Andy Weir. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Everyone seems to have liked this book, but it just wasn’t my cup
of tea. I know he was up there by himself, and he was probably going
a little bit crazy, but he talked to much, and it really annoyed me. There
was also too much science going on. It was like he had to explain EVERYTHING
in detail, and I just didn’t need that…

11.) Like Candy by Debra Doxer. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
12.) Sweet Liar by Debra Doxer. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I’m not big on mystery/thrillers, but where I read about these I was like,
this has to be good! But unfortunately for me, there were just okay. Not my style.
I’m sorry but there was just too much foolishness going on in these books.
At first I thought I was really going to enjoy them, but then a lot of unrealistic
things were going on…I’m surprised I picked up and finished both books.

13.) I Take You by Eliza Kennedy. ⭐
I’m not really big on reading Adult fiction, because they tend to be too much.
But when I saw this book, I was thinking it was going to be more along the
lines of the books, Something Borrow, and Something Blue by Emily Giffin…Boy
was I wrong! It was like I was reading PORN! 😐 No Thanks!

That’s it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday.
What are some of your favorite books, that are out
of your comfort zone? Let me know down in the comments! 😀

  1. I’m reading The Martian right now, and I have to say I’m not as impressed by it as I thought I would be!! It’s like the same cycle keeps repeating itself without any new thoughts/feelings being conveyed. I thought it would go between funny and emotional, but I’m not feeling the emotion part. I also really want to read The Murmurings. I don’t read a lot of horror, but I’m trying to try new things lately.

  2. Hahaha, I loved your thoughts on The Martian and I Take You. Netgalley refused to grant my request for I Take You, but now I’m glad they did. Ain’t got no time for that!

  3. This is a great list! I think our tastes vary (which is awesome, lol), but I definitely want to pick some of these up. I’m disappointed to hear about The Martian; I was thinking about picking that up. Now I have to ponder that decision, lol.

  4. Glad to see you enjoyed The Lightning Thief! PJO is one of my favorite series. 🙂 And in my opinion they just get better with every book, so I hope you like the rest of the series when you get to them!

  5. Great list! The Percy Jackson series is one of my favorites. The Vampire Academy doesn’t fall within my typical genre of choice, but I’ve seen so many good reviews from people who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of the genre that I might have to give them a try sometime.

  6. I loved Vampire Academy when I first read it, to be honest I need to go back and re-read the series because I want to start Bloodlines but I can’t remember anything that happened in the VA series. Also I have heard great things about Percy Jackson, I’m glad you enjoyed the first book, it’s on my to-read list so hopefully I’ll be able to get around to it soon. Great picks for this week’s TTT

  7. I seriously have to read the Martian! I watched the movie, but have yet to read the book.
And the murmurings sounds awesome! my cup of tea. 😀

  8. I LOVE PERCY JACKSON. And I really liked Vampire Academy too — speaking of, I really need to finish that series. I actually watched The Martian and loved it but I keep hearing that the book isn’t as good as the movie. But I’ll give it a shot!

  9. Percy Jackson made my list, too! MG is not my favorite genre, but this series waay outlived all my expectations. I also adored VA – it was very much in my comfort zone when I picked it up, though, as I read it in my vampire era lol. Really would love to read The Murmurings and The Martian – I read mixed things about both, so I’m trying to go into them not expecting anything special, though. Awesome list! 🙂

  10. I’ve been wanting to pick up either Vampire Academy or Bloodlines for ages now, but after reading the authors subpar standalone Soundless I’m not so sure. The fact that you liked it though despite it being out of your bookish comfort zone bodes well for my odds of starting one of the series. Great post!
