Book: Stronger Than You Know by Jolene Perry.
Synopsis: After police intervention, fifteen-year-old Joy has finally escaped the trailer where she once lived with her mother and survived years of confinement and abuse. Now living with her aunt, uncle and cousins in a comfortable house, she’s sure she’ll never belong. Wracked by panic attacks, afraid to talk to anyone at her new school, Joy’s got a whole list of reasons why she’s crazy. With immense courage, Joy finds friends and grows closer to her new family. But just when hope is taking hold, she learns she must testify in her mother’s trial. Can she face her old life without losing her way in the new one? Will she ever truly belong in a world that seems too normal to be real?

The 56:
I was so afraid that mom would change, go back to how she was, or that we’d be separated when we were finally having fun. I’d been very convincing in telling the people who came by how well Mom and I did, and that the conversation with my aunt was all a misunderstanding. We never see her. How could she know?

Let’s hope so! 🙂
Her story is all too familiar to me, from my work over the years. I cringe a little when I think of how things might go. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “A MAP OF THE WORLD”
Okay, it has happened again! Askimet stole my comment…please check your spam folder.
Anyway…I can relate to this story, as I’ve seen families and situations like this over the years. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “A MAP OF THE WORLD”
I don’t know why it keeps doing that! I think the same thing was happening to me last week! Checking now! 😀
Thanks, Giovanna….I have been in contact with WP support, and they said they had fixed the problem. Let’s see!
I hope so!
This sounds really good but a bit of a tough read. I hope you’re enjoying it! I’m trying to figure out how the 56 fits in with the blurb. I guess I just need to read the book!
This sounds like a fascinating character-driven story that I’d enjoy. I already feel sorry for Joy, just from reading your post.
My Friday post features The Songbird’s Call.
This sounds like an interesting story. Mine is from a cute middle grade mystery – Friday Barnes Under Suspicion by R. A. Spratt. Happy reading!
I feel so sad for her. I’d keep reading to see how she overcomes.
My Friday 56 from The Appeal Of Evil
