I first came across Heather Christo on the Food Networks, Cutthroat Kitchen. You may have heard of it, it is a show in which 4 professional chefs fight it out to win 25,000 all while paying to sabotage their competitors (some pretty gnarly sabotages, I might add.) On this particular episode Heather stood among three other elite chefs who immediately dubbed her as “just a food blogger” Seeing as that she was the underdog, I couldn’t help but root for her. In the end she came out on top showing her trash talking competitors just what a food blogger could do. The episode left me intrigued so instantly I looked her up to check out her blog and I fell in love.
Not only is Heather’s blog beautiful (the set up, the fonts and the photography), but it was chock full of amazing recipes. From Savory to sweet and everything in between, her blog has it all and on top of that, all of her recipes are allergen free. Yes, allergen free meaning, no: gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, or cane sugar. At first glance, that seems a bit scary, but trust me, once you set sight on her colorful and vibrant dishes, all of your worries will go straight out the window. I was in complete awe, so when I came across Heather Christo’s cook book on blogging for books, I knew it had to be mine.
I want to start out by saying, this book has something for everyone! No matter what kind of diet you engage in, you are likely to find something for yourself here. As I person who eats a plant based diet, I really appreciate just how many of her recipes are vegan or that you can make vegan. I especially appreciate the fact that my mom, who doesn’t abide by a plant based diet, can also find something in here that works for her. Just like on her blog, the food looks amazing, she uses a wide variety of fresh and colorful ingredients and that is always the start of a good meal. Now, most of you may know, I definitely have a sweet tooth and lucky for me, most of her desserts are vegan! My only real complaint is that some of the photos in the book aren’t very good looking– they’re pixelated and grainy.
All in all, I was not disappointed in this book and I cannot wait to try out some of the recipes. I give it 5 stars.
