Favorite Literary Fathers/Father Figures – In celebration of Father’s Day this month for most countries, talk about your favorite dads!
I really hate when the topics involve your favorite parents, because in most of the books I read, the parents are either mentally unavailable, or just plain ol’ LOSERS. So after thinking long and hard, thankfully, I was able to come up with my five picks.
Here they are:
1.) Finn Weiss – Tell The Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt.
He was June’s Uncle, Godfather, and Best Friend. He loved her like she was his own, and she felt her best, whenever she was around him.
2.) Lula’s Mom’s Boyfriend/Husband (sorry I forgot his name!) – Weird Girl and What’s His Name by Meagan Brothers.
He was a nice guy, and even though he wasn’t her father, and her mother was nothing more than a waste of time, he was still helpful, and he seemed to actually care about Lula. I’d would like to Hope that they keep in touch after this book ends.
3.) Herr Silverman – Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick.
I feel like he is the only person who really tried to be there for/understand Leonard. Even though in the end I don’t think he really did such a great job in handling the situation, he was always there for Leonard. He was the only one who truly had his back.
4.) Jack Salmon – The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
Even when everyone else wanted to give up, He never stopped looking for/trying to figure out what happened to his daughter. He never gave up on her.
5.) Keith Mars – The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by
Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham.
How could I have a favorite fathers list, and not include the Keith Mars!? He is one of the best fictional fathers out there! He was a little tough on Veronica at times, but that was because he worked in a dangerous business, and of course Veronica was hard headed, so you never knew what kind of trouble she was getting into. He loves his daughter more than anything else in the world, and that really shows.
That’s all for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday!
