My Thoughts: Recently my mom has been on a Pinterest kick, and she has found and made some delicious Asian dishes. Now we have become obsessed with finding the next best Asian dish to make. I came across Phoenix Claws and Jade Trees, and thought this might be the answer! At first glance this cookbook was a little intimidating, but soon after dining into it, you find out that is not the case. This cookbook is for the home cook, who would like to cook delicious, restaurant quality food.
There are over 200 beautiful photographs within this cookbook. I don’t know about you, but I love when cookbooks include lot’s of pictures. There are lots of photos of the ingredients needed as well as utensils used when trying out these great looking dishes.
Phoenix Claws and Jade Trees, is also very informative and has a lot of historic information about ingredients and where they come from. There is also information about the Chinese culture which is very educational.
I really like how the chapters are arranged by cooking methods, and the instructions are given for which method works best for certain recipes. Not only are there recipes for your everyday proteins such as: Beef, Chicken, and Pork, there are also dishes that include proteins such as Duck and Shrimp. Now, if you are a person who doesn’t eat meat, this book might not be for you. Although I’m pretty sure you may be able to adapt some of these recipes to fit your needs.
I can’t wait to try some of these meals. I gave Phoenix Claws and Jade Trees, 4 Stars.
