My Thoughts: I just have to start off by saying, I LOVE MINDY KALING! Now that I got that off my chest, I was so excited when I heard about her new book Why Not Me? Although I stupidly STILL haven’t read her previous book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I just knew in my heart that I HAD to read this one(I promise I will read her first book soon!).
I personally love paperback books so I was already bummed that I was going to wait so long to read this, and my longing for the book increased as I saw what seemed like MILLIONS of people talking about how they pre-ordered the book, or got it early from publishers. I’m really cheap when it comes to buying books, or in fact, anything, so I was not about to spend $25 on a book. So day after day of talking myself out of just buying it, something told me to check Blogging For Books to see if they had anything worth my time. Let me just say, I almost screamed when I saw smiling back at me, MINDY KALING! I thought, this is too good to be true so without skipping a beat, I requested the book. You do not know how excited I was when I got my shipping confirmation. I could not wait!
Anyways, this book was amazing. I am glad I read it right away. It was VERY funny and I couldn’t put it down. No lie, I read this bad boy in one sitting. I kept telling myself to put it down, but I couldn’t. I just had to finish it! I haven’t read a memoir in what feels like forever, and Mindy made me want to read more of them. Especially Funny ones. This book literally had me laughing out loud. While reading this, It felt like Mindy was actually talking to me. I feel like I was having a conversation with a good friend that I haven’t seen in a while. It was great!
I love how this book isn’t all about trying to make us laugh. She brought up some very true problems in our society, that everyone wants to pretend don’t exist/sweep under the rug (racism and sexism). But she did it in a way that didn’t make you want to run for the hills. I’m so excited that I got to read this book, I can’t even think straight. I can’t wait to read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, and anything else she ever comes out with! I gave Why Not Me? 5 Stars! It deserves no less. 🙂
